Jean Simmons stars as a 17-year-old heiress who is sent to live with her seemingly benevolent uncle following the death of her father. However, the old man is actually only interested in the girl's money - and it's not long before her life is threatened by his dark and devious designs. Period melodrama saved from the doldrums by fine performances from the ensemble cast, including Derrick De Marney, Derek Bond, Esmond Knight and Katrina Paxinou
