An alcoholic motor mechanic is fired by the boss who stole his girlfriend and retreats into depression, constantly musing on the ups and downs of his pathetic life. The only job he can get is driving an ice cream van, which leads him into a stumbling romance with a 17-year-old girl - and yet more trouble.
