Movie (1956)
PoW Jean Paget is forced to endure a harrowing march between Japanese labour camps, but finds comfort in her friendship with Australian captive Joe Harman. During the journey Joe is caught stealing a chicken to feed her, and is tied to a crucifix and left to die. However, as the war finally draws to a close, Jean is startled when a letter arrives postmarked in Joe's home town of Alice Springs. Jack Lee's drama, based on the novel by Nevil Shute, starring Virginia McKenna, Peter Finch, Takagi and Jean Anderson
