To Have and Have Not

It's hard to believe this sizzling thriller features Lauren Bacall's movie debut, so assured is her performance. She plays a sultry pickpocket who becomes involved with charter-boat captain Humphrey Bogart during World War Two - but her need to leave the Vichy-controlled island of Martinique and get back to the States prompts him to embark on a risky operation with a group of French freedom fighters.
