Science fiction tale, based on HG Wells' novel charting a possible future history for the human race. A decades-long world war plunges the earth into a new dark age, but a group of scientists set out to reclaim civilisation from anarchy. Over the next century, incredible technological advances are made - but many believe that humanity has been sacrificed in the name of science. Ambitious and visually impressive, if preachy and theatrical drama, starring Raymond Massey, Edward Chapman and Ralph Richardson. Directed by William Cameron Menzies.
