The Thing

Movie (1982)

Kurt Russell stars in John Carpenter's special-effects-laden remake of the sci-fi shocker. An Antarctic research base is invaded by a mysterious shape-shifting alien that kills and imitates its prey. The small crew of scientists face the terrifying task of preventing the creature from making it's way to civilisation, while uncertain which of them are real and which are monsters in disguise. The rare remake that surpasses the original, Carpenter's film is a masterclass in paranoia and claustrophobia. When the beast does show itself, it comes courtesy of some unforgettably twisted special effects. Wilford Brimley, Keith David, Richard Dysart and David Clennon lend support amid the gore.
