The Taming of the Shrew

A young woman's father forbids her from marrying her lover until her older sister is also wed - no easy task given her fiery temper and sharp tongue. But when a fortune-hunting rogue arrives in town in search of a wife, he becomes determined to win her over. Franco Zeffirelli's adaptation of William Shakespeare's famous comedy is a treat for the senses, thanks to wild use of colour and stupendous cinematography. The top-drawer cast - including real-life married couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Michael Hordern and Cyril Cusack - don't do it any harm either.
