Nervous groom Fred Astaire gets cold feet at the last minute and ducks out of his wedding - luckily his bride's an understanding sort of girl and agrees to give him a second chance, providing he proves himself responsible enough to make a mint. But it's not long before he falls head over heels in love with new dance partner Ginger Rogers, and sets out to ensure that he doesn't earn his fortune.
