Beautifully stylish multi-Oscar-winning melodrama from director Billy Wilder, taking a savage look at the movie-making machine. Starring Gloria Swanson in a scene-stealing performance as Norma Desmond, a washed-up silent film star dreaming of a comeback. Salvation seemingly comes in the form of a struggling writer on the run from debt collectors, who is persuaded to write a screenplay for her and ultimately becomes her lover - but their relationship is doomed to end in tragedy. William Holden, Eric von Strophe, Fred Clark and Nancy Olson co-star, and there are a multitude of cameo appearances by famous faces of the day
