Sullivan's Travels

Movie (1941)

Preston Sturges' brilliant tragicomic satire features a delightful performance from Joel McCrea as a movie director who tires of making fluffy comedies. When he suggests making a serious film about life during the Depression, he is forced to admit he knows nothing about poverty or suffering. To broaden his horizons he disguises himself as a tramp and takes a journey across America, finding love with an out-of-work actress along the way. Veronica Lake, Robert Warwick and William Demarest also star. The Coen Brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? took it's title from the serious social drama McCrea's character dreams of making
