Marlon Brando and Oscar-winner Vivien Leigh star in Elia Kazan's smouldering adaptation of Tennessee Williams' powerful stage play about the tense relationship between a fragile Southern belle on the edge of a breakdown and her brutish brother-in-law. Kim Hunter, Karl Malden, Rudy Bond and Nick Dennis also star. Some aspects of the original text had to be altered to pass the censors in the 1950s, but it still shocked audiences on release, thanks to the unforgettable performances by Leigh and Brando
