A war correspondent gets himself assigned to an American military unit during the Second World War. He joins them on a long march through North Africa and into the Italian campaign, forming a close bond with the men whose dangerous lives he is documenting. Drama based on reporter Ernie Pyle's account of the conflict, starring Burgess Meredith and Robert Mitchum
