Admiral James T Kirk returns to the bridge of the Enterprise for the first big screen outing for the venerable sci-fi franchise. A mysterious planet-sized energy force is moving through space, destroying everything in its path. Kirk is reunited with his old crew as they set out to discover what the invader is and how it can be stopped. But along the way he must contend with a bitter young rival desperate to assume command and one of his crew members being possessed by the aliens. It's certainly the most epic of the movie series, but is a little longer than it really needed to be. William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley all reprise their roles
