Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

A heroic aviator is called into action when a horde of giant robots go on the rampage in New York city. Meanwhile, a plucky reporter investigating the disappearance of several top scientists believes there is a connection, and the pair team up to uncover the identity of the evil genius behind it all. Nostalgic sci-fi adventure, in the style of a Thirties cliffhanger serial, which uses the mix of real actors and computer-generated backgrounds more recently seen in Sin City and 300, but it's a pity the story isn't as good as the visuals. Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow are the daring heroes, alongside Angelina Jolie (giving her plummy Lara Croft accent another outing), Michael Gambon and Bai Ling, while a digitally recreated Laurence Olivier features as the mysterious mastermind Dr Totenkopf
