John Wayne makes his final film appearance as a legendary gunfighter stricken with cancer who decides to go out in a blaze of glory rather than languish on his sick bed. Thoroughly enjoyable Western melodrama, with Wayne giving one of his best performances, ensuring he, like his on-screen alter ego, departed on a high note.
