Sergeant Rutledge
Movie (1960)
Western supremo John Ford took an unexpected turn when he directed this gripping drama. A respected cavalry officer defends a black soldier accused of rape and murder in late 19th-century Arizona, but finds himself facing a wall of hatred and bigotry. Although Woody Strode is excellent as the eponymous protagonist, and Jeffrey Hunter and Constance Towers are also among the adequate cast, it doesn't quite live up to expectations
