Spanish conquistador Pizarro, intent on gaining a fortune in gold, leads a band of soldiers on a journey through Peru in search of the kingdom of the Incas. On his arrival, he kidnaps their king, believed to be a god by his people, intending to hold him to ransom. But as a mutual respect develops between the two men, the explorer is forced to choose between his desire for conquest and his sense of honour. Historical adventure, based on Peter Shaffer's acclaimed play, and featuring powerful performances from Robert Shaw and Christopher Plummer.
