A renegade general armed with chemical weapons holds San Francisco to ransom from a stronghold on Alcatraz, so an FBI agent is forced to enlist the aid of a veteran criminal who is also the only man to ever escape the infamous prison. Michael Bay's thoroughly enjoyable action thriller, boasting all his usual trademarks - huge explosions, jaw-dropping action and a seemingly never-fading sunset - but with a considerably sharper script than most of his movies.
