America Ferrera stars as Ana Garcia, a Mexican-American high-school graduate who is all set to go to college, despite the opposition of her traditional parents. However, after persistent nagging from her overbearing mother, Ana reluctantly puts aside her ambitions to become a seamstress in her sister's dress-making factory. In her new job, Ana unexpectedly begins to gain an insight into who she really is, and realises that she must pursue her dreams.
