Molly Parker is a single mother strung out on heroin and unable to care for her young sons, and her situation worsens when her 10-year-old boy decides to experiment with the drug himself. Gillies MacKinnon's stark portrayal of drug dependency, set on the grimy streets of east London, is both shocking and poignant. It may not provide any concrete answers, but its realism marks a refreshing approach to a subject which is too often trivialised.
