Director Gus Van Sant got quite a reaction when he announced he would follow up the huge success of Good Will Hunting with this scene-by-scene remake of the classic Sixties chiller. Hitchcock fans had their worst fears confirmed when it was released - it is nowhere near as good as the original, the whole affair lacking in atmosphere.
