Movie (1998)
Director Gus Van Sant got quite a reaction when he announced he would follow up the huge success of Good Will Hunting with this scene-by-scene remake of the classic Sixties chiller. Hitchcock fans had their worst fears confirmed when it was released - it is nowhere near as good as the original, the whole affair lacking in atmosphere. There are plenty of worse films, but none as pointless. Vince Vaughn attempts to recreate Anthony Perkins' unforgettable performance as disturbed motel owner Norman Bates, whose curious relationship with his domineering mother leads to murder. Anne Heche revisits the ill-fated shower scene immortalised in the original by Janet Leigh, while Julianne Moore, Viggo Mortensen and William H Macy offer support
