Roberto Benigni directs and stars in this ultimately disappointing fantasy adventure about a little boy lovingly carved out of wood by a toymaker who longs for a son. After the puppet comes to life and causes a whirlwind of chaos, he is separated from his father, and embarks on a journey to be reunited with him. There's simply no getting around the fact that the 50-year-old Benigni is way too old to be playing the title role.
