The Philadelphia Story
Movie (1940)
Splendid Hollywood comedy, with Katharine Hepburn on top form as a spoiled society girl whose second wedding to stuffed shirt John Howard is disrupted by the arrival of her ex-husband and two scandal magazine journalists. The resulting chaos, played out by an excellent supporting cast including Cary Grant and James Stewart, is bound to bring a smile to even the most jaded viewer, and the film's success led to its remake as the Frank Sinatra musical High Society. The first of a double bill of films celebrating the centenary of Hepburn's birth
