Naomi Watts and Edward Norton star in this 1920s-set period drama as wealthy young English woman Kitty and the doctor she hastily enters into a loveless marriage with. When the couple travel to China, Kitty embarks on an affair with a local diplomat. But when her possessive husband finds out, he leads them both on a perilous journey to a remote disease-ravaged village.
