Othello

Eamonn Walker plays the title role in this drama based on Shakespeare's tragedy of revenge and jealousy, with Keeley Hawes and Christopher Eccleston. The story is updated to modern-day Britain, where John Othello is just taking up his new post as the first black commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, in a city bubbling with racial tension and unrest. To add to his troubles, Othello's mentor and right-hand man Ben Jago is angry at being overlooked for the post and, while promising his support and devotion, begins a secret campaign to bring down the Met's new star : using Othello's obsessive love for his beautiful wife Dessie as the catalyst. Adapted by Andrew Davies, the drama also stars Bill Paterson, Richard Coyle and Rachael Stirling
