In 1930s Germany, the Nazi government is determined to give the country's reputation a boost by sending a mountaineering team up the north face of the Eiger. Two soldiers rise to the challenge, one devoted to the Third Reich, the other cynical about the Nazi regime, but as they make their ascent, they discover a rival Austrian group are out to beat them to the summit.
