Synopsis:

Premiere. A family left penniless by the father's death are forced to head for London, where they hope a wealthy uncle will help - only to realise he cares little for their plight. Son Nicholas ends up teaching in a school for unfortunate boys, but the violent methods used prompt him to flee, taking a timid orphan with him.
