Jodie Foster puts in yet another barnstorming, Oscar-nominated performance, this time as a woman who has grown up in complete isolation in a remote backwoods area of America's Deep South. After years alone she is discovered by a well-meaning anthropologist and a psychologist who subject her to a series of distressing experiments in an effort to decipher her unique personal language in the name of science - but instead discover more about themselves and their dubious motives. Real-life husband and wife Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson also star in this intriguing drama directed by Michael Apted
