Jean-Jacques Annaud's atmospheric medieval whodunit stars Sean Connery as wily Franciscan friar William of Baskerville, who investigates a series of murders at a remote monastery. While the monks are quick to declare the deaths the work of the Devil, William is convinced a human killer is at large, and sets out to expose the truth - a mission that brings him into conflict with the Inquisition. This adaptation of Umberto Eco's novel also stars Christian Slater
