Incredibly powerful biopic of Irish writer and painter Christy Brown who was disabled from birth by cerebral palsy. Thought to be an imbecile as a youngster, the talented and determined Brown taught himself to write and draw with his left foot : the only part of his body he could really control. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role and Brenda Fricker as his strong and supportive mother : both of whom deservedly scooped Academy Awards for their performances : alongside Cyril Cusack, Ruth McCabe and Ray McAnally in his final screen role
