An heiress stands to inherit a fortune when her brother dies but learns she is only able to claim the money if she is married. Her scheming aunt is vexed by this discovery, wanting her niece to remain free and single. As a solution, she pays a penniless cartoonist to take the role of husband in a marriage of convenience, little knowing the aspiring artist is deeply in love with his bride-to-be.
