Moulin Rouge!

An idealistic British gentleman heads for the decadent back streets of Paris, determined to play a part in the bohemian revolution - only to fall in love with a courtesan from the famous Moulin Rouge. However, a scheming duke also wants to win her affections, setting the scene for tragedy. Baz Luhrmann's utterly fantastic, lavish musical spectacular takes a host of contemporary songs by artists including Nirvana, David Bowie and Marc Bolan and reworks them in exuberant, colourful fashion. Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman prove their singing credentials and give excellent convincing performances as the star-crossed lovers, alongside Jim Broadbent and Richard Roxburgh. John Leguizamo appears as absinthe-addled artist Toulouse-Lautrec and viewers should watch out for a cameo from diminutive pop princess Kylie Minogue
