A series of harrowing personal tragedies brings depressed prison guard Billy Bob Thornton and desperate widow Halle Berry together in an unlikely yet intense relationship. Acclaimed and very daring emotional drama, for which Berry deservedly scooped a Best Actress Oscar. It's just a shame her on-screen form has taken a distinct nose-dive since, with lacklustre performances in humdrum outings including Catwoman and Gothika. Heath Ledger, Peter Boyle and Sean Combs are among the high-quality supporting cast in this searing offering
