Edmund Gwenn stars as a popular New York department store Santa Claus who brings joy into the hearts of the city's children by claiming to be the genuine article. Unfortunately, he lands in an asylum for his troubles, and it's up to a friendly lawyer to ensure seasonal goodwill triumphs in the end. Absolutely superb seasonal entertainment, co-starring Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, Gene Lockhart, Porter Hall, William Frawley and Natalie Wood as a cute, but cynical, little moppet
