Merry Christmas

Christian Carion's sentimental World War One drama, recalling the legendary ceasefire of 1914. During the festive season, soldiers from both sides clamber out of their trenches for a brief respite from the battle, to sing carols and play football in No Man's Land. Benno Furmann stars as a German opera singer whose rendition of Silent Night inspires the gesture of friendship. The film follows the personal stories of various soldiers, including an Anglican priest who volunteers to accompany his church aide and a French officer forced to leave his pregnant wife when he is sent to the front line. The international cast, all speaking in their own languages, includes Diane Kruger, Ian Richardson, Daniel Bruhl and Gary Lewis
