A shy male nurse decides to delay proposing to his girlfriend until he's won the approval of her strict father, an ex-CIA agent who doesn't suffer fools gladly, and vows to be on his best behaviour during a trip to stay at the family home. However, it's not long before his efforts to impress have descended into a catalogue of embarrassments and disasters - and to make matters worse, his fiancee's head is turned by the attentions of a hunky old flame.
