Sentimental musical about a close-knit family who learn the father of the household has been promoted to a better job in New York, But they struggle to come to terms with the prospect of leaving their friends behind, and are horrified to realise they may all miss the World's Fair to boot - while teenage daughter Esther faces the abrupt termination of her romance with the boy next door. Judy Garland, Tom Drake and Margaret O'Brien star in this sparkling MGM offering, boasting memorable musical numbers including The Trolley Song, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and The Boy Next Door.
