Director Tim Burton turns his attention to spoofing low-budget Fifties sci-fi movies, focusing on Earth's efforts to repel an invasion by Martians possessing unstoppably powerful technology and a twisted sense of humour. Gleefully anarchic comedy, with Jack Nicholson heading the all-star cast in a dual role as the weak-willed US president and a corrupt Las Vegas entrepreneur, alongside Pierce Brosnan, Glenn Close, Natalie Portman and Annette Bening, plus Tom Jones as himself.
