Tender coming-of-age drama set in Italy under Mussolini's reign. A teenager becomes infatuated with a beautiful new woman in his village. However, the object of his affection finds her life falling apart when her husband is sent away to fight in World War Two, leaving her alone to face the lust of the town's men and the resentment of the women.
