A married American news correspondent reporting on the Korean War from his base in Hong Kong falls in love with a widowed Eurasian doctor. However, he is unable to obtain a divorce and, under pressure from her family and the racist attitudes of the colonial British, the couple are forced to keep their affair a secret.
