Dustin Hoffman stars as a 121-year-old man who recalls in flashback his misadventures in the Wild West, including his temporary adoption as an Indian brave and the story of how he became the only white survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn. Arthur Penn's epic Western comedy is based on the best-selling novel by Thomas Berger, and made it to the big screen with a rare sense of grandeur and sly humour. Faye Dunaway, Martin Balsam, Richard Mulligan, Chief Dan George and Jeff Corey also number among the uniformly excellent cast
