Synopsis:

Johnny Depp stars as 17th-century poet and author John Wilmot who caused various scandals due to his dashing and debauched behaviour. Becoming a close friend of monarch Charles II (played by John Malkovich, who also co-produced), the rebellious writer enjoyed a relationship with a beautiful actress (Samantha Morton), but his lifestyle eventually caught up with him when he was exiled from Britain and later contracted syphilis. Rousing period biopic, based on the play by Stephen Jeffreys
