A Christian fundamentalist discovers his wife is having an affair, and offers her atheist lover an ultimatum - if he does not jump to his death from a ledge within the hour, the aggrieved husband will kill his spouse. As the non-believer is forced to question whether there is an afterlife, a detective wrestling with marital problems is sent to talk him down.
