Luis Bunuel's highly controversial surreal French drama attacking the Church, state and society through its depiction of a couple's desire for one another. Banned shortly after release, the film rendered Bunuel unemployable as a director for many years. Starring Gaston Modot, Lya Lys, Caridad de Laberdesque and Max Ernst, and co-written by artist Salvador Dali
