Allied prisoners struggle to survive the rigours of a Japanese PoW camp, as silver-tongued US corporal George Segal sets out to provide all manner of black-market supplies to his fellow inmates, eventually even expanding his operation to include their captors and guards - but while he's a saviour to most of the men, his activities earn him the enmity of strait-laced British soldier Tom Courtenay. World War Two drama based on James Clavell's bestseller, with Segal giving a searing performance in the lead, alongside James Fox, John Mills and Denholm Elliott.
