Movie (1966)
Sweeping historical action adventure about the eventful final years of General Gordon. The British soldier is sent to aid Egyptian forces in 1884, as they crumble under attack by furious Sudanese warriors. However, when it becomes clear a truce is out of the question, the military strategist is shocked by Prime Minister Gladstone's reluctance to send more troops - prompting him to make a series of bold manoeuvres. Basil Dearden's epic boasts excellent scriptwriting and memorable performances from leading men Charlton Heston and Laurence Olivier.
