Synopsis:
The crew of Russia's first nuclear submarine embark on their maiden voyage in 1961, but the mission ends in disaster. The original captain has been demoted for expressing fears that the vessel was not ready for use. But his anxieties prove well-founded when the reactor malfunctions, threatening not just the lives of the entire crew but creating the possibility of a nuclear explosion the US would mistake for an attack - potentially starting World War Three.
