The Journey of August King
Movie (1995)
Jason Patric stars in this period drama as a widowed farmer in North Carolina, who encounters runaway slave Thandie Newton and decides to help her evade the law, putting his own life in jeopardy in the process. Eventually he hatches a plan to send her to safety in the North, but a growing attachment soon develops between them. Beautifully shot but ultimately sluggish tale, based on the novel by John Ehle, also starring Larry Drake and Sam Waterston
