The Illusionist
Movie (2006)
Neil Burger's superb mystery thriller, set in early 20th century Vienna, is based loosely on Steven Millhauser's short story. Edward Norton stars as Eisenheim, a young man who is besotted with a girl above his social standing. Following a meeting with a travelling magician, Eisenheim becomes obsessed with conjuring and decides to leave the country to explore the world and perfect his art. However, he returns years later as a talented illusionist, determined to use his powers to save the love of his life from a marriage to a ruthless prince. Paul Giamatti and Jessica Biel co-star.
