Set in 1930s Czechoslovakia, this romantic comedy tells the story of an ambitious Czech man who is full of get-rich-quick schemes and plans to own an hotel. But his dreams - and the love a good German woman - are threatened by the outbreak of World War Two, as German forces pour over the border and proceed to take control of his country.
